"A remarkable story of courage and kindness in a spectacular and moving piece of theatre, with unforgettable live music and stunning puppetry. A true story of grit, defiance, and also kindness and compassion".

Before permission. Before precedent.
She flew when women didn’t. Drove when they shouldn’t.
That'll be Dora. Dora Walker.

When the First World War called, Dora answered, buying an ambulance and steering it straight into danger.
When told to retire by the sea, she chose instead to master it, to become the first woman to command a fishing boat in the North Sea. Through the mined waters and nights of the Second World War, pistol in her belt, she became the guide everyone trusted.
And that was only the beginning...

A woman who refused the ordinary and inspires the current generation of those who work on or by the sea.
Dogwood’s new production is a ballad drama rich in puppetry and with original music by award-winning folk musician, Clementine Lovell.
The project has been made possible through the generous support of Arts Council England.

Blackfriars Theatre is run predominately by volunteers. If you would be interested in helping out please speak to our Box Office.

Thank you for your support and understanding. We hope you enjoy the show and encourage others to help Keep Theatre Live in Boston.

Blackfriars undoubtedly plays a very important role as Boston's centre for entertainment and the arts. It is home to two very successful local amateur dramatic and operatic groups, as well as hosting a varied program of professional stage productions.
