Ethel and Norman Fowler are spending the summer in the idyllic surroundings of Golden Pond. Their solitude is disrupted when they are asked to look after their daughter's fiance's teenage son Billy. Over time Billy becomes the "grandson" the couple have always wanted and Norman and he develop a special relationship which changes both their lives. Eventually, at the end of the summer, Billy goes home and Norman and Ethel, knowing time is against them, hope that perhaps another summer on Golden Pond awaits.
